Study Tour
The Group organises an annual study tour located outside the UK. This normally lasts a week and consists of visiting fortifications in a region with the help of a local guide. The next tour will be to the Netherlands in 2012. Members interested in this should see further details in the Member's section of the website. FSG Study Tour to the Netherlands 2012
This year's annual study tour will examine the fortifications of the Netherlands with the help of local guides. The tour will last from the 13th to the 19th of May and be based in Utrecht.
Provisional Programme
Sunday 13th May: Utrecht Area - Fort op de Biltstraat, Lunet 1, and Fort de Gagel.
Monday 14th May: Amsterdam/Utrecht Areas - Fortified town of Naarden, Fort Ronduit, Werk IV Bussum, Fort Uitermeer, Castle Muiderslot and surrounding works.
Tuesday 15th May: Ijmuiden - Fort bij Ijmuiden, Bunker Museum, Raumbootbunker, Marine Seeziel Batterie Heereduin, Flak Batterie Olmen.
Wednesday 16th May: Den Helder - Fort Kijkduin, Fort Erfprins, Pantserfort de Harssens, Fort Westoever, Fort Dirks Admiraal & German AA Battery.
Thursday 17th May Amsterdam Area - Fort bij Uithoorn, Fort bij Hoofddorp, Fort bij Aalsmeer, Fort bij Spijkerboor.
Friday 18th May: South Netherlands - Fort Nieuw St. Andries, Fort bij Asperen, Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg, fortified town of Heusden, Slot Loevestein.
Saturday 19th May: Utrecht Area - Fort bij Vechten and surrounding works, Fort bij het Hemeltje, Fort op de Ruigenhoekse Dijk, Fort aan de Klop.
Attendees will need to make their own way to the Mitland Hotel in Utrecht where the cost includes six nights accommodation, meals, coach transport during the tour and entrance to forts and sites. The cost will be around £1250 per person.
